NOTICE OF RATIFICATION VOTE

TO: THE CITIZENS AND MEMBERS OF TLA’AMIN NATION
TAKE NOTICE that a Ratification Vote of the Voters of the Tla’amin Nation pursuant to the Voting Guidelines of the Klahanie Subdivision Specific Claim Settlement Agreement (the “Voting Guidelines”) will be held on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2019. The purpose of the Vote is to determine if the Citizens and Members of the Tla’amin Nation approve and assent to the Klahanie Subdivision Specific Claim Settlement Agreement (the “Settlement Agreement”) between Canada and the Tla’amin Nation attached as Appendix “A” and summarized in additional materials being provided with this Notice.
The following Ballot Question will be asked of the Voters of the Tla’amin Nation by secret ballot, as set out in Schedule “1” to the Settlement Agreement:
“As a Voter of the Tla’amin First Nation, do you:
- agree to all of the terms and conditions of the Klahanie Subdivision Specific Claim Settlement Agreement initialed by the negotiators for Tla’amin Nation and Canada, which settles and releases the Klahanie Subdivision Specific Claim;
- authorize and direct the Executive Council of the Tla’amin Nation to sign all documents and do everything necessary to give effect to the Klahanie Subdivision Specific Claim Settlement Agreement?”

The Ratification Vote will take place on
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2019 from 8 am to 8 pm at TLA’AMIN SALISH CENTRE
Included with this Notice of Ratification Vote are copies of the Settlement Agreement (without the Voting Guidelines and forms), and other such information as the Executive Council determines.
AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE that a Voters List containing the full names of eligible voters is posted with this Notice of Ratification Vote. A Tla’amin Citizen or Member may apply to have the Voters List revised in accordance with Article 5.2 or Article 5.3 of the Voting Guidelines, which are set out below:
A Tla’amin Citizen or Member may apply to the Ratification Officer before the Voting Day to have the Voters List revised if such Citizen or Member believes that:
5.2.1 the name of a Voter has been omitted from the Voters List; or
5.2.2 the name of a Voter is incorrectly set out or should not be included on the
A Tla’amin Citizen or Member of the First Nation may, up to and including the Voting Day, apply to the Ratification Officer to have their name added to the Voters List if that Citizen or Member provides:
- proof of eligibility to vote by completing the Declaration of Eligibility to Vote Form substantially in the form of Appendix D. This proof shall include documentation that verifies that the Voter’s name is recorded in the Tla’amin Citizenship Register or on the Tla’amin Band List, and that the Voter is at least eighteen years old on the date of the Ratification Vote and not disqualified from voting at Tla’amin elections or, if a Member, is not aware of any reason why they would be disqualified from voting if they were a Citizen at band elections.
- Upon receipt and confirmation of the information in the Declaration of Membership and Eligibility to Vote form, the Ratification Officer will revise the Voters List.
An application for an amendment to the Voters List or a request for a copy of the Voting Guidelines or forms should be made to the Ratification Officer via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
VOTER IDENTIFICATION: Government-issued photo identification is required to be shown at the voting station.
