Background: Formerly known as the oceanfront Historic Lund Hotel & Marina, The Lund Resort at Klah ah men is located at the northernmost tip of BC’s beautiful Sunshine Coast, at the Gateway to the renowned Desolation Sound. The hotel was built in 1905 and is located at the heart of the quaint village of Lund once again known as Klah ah men.  Translated this means ‘A Place of Refuge ‘ which was a traditional village site of Tla’amin people.  The Resort features 31 guest rooms, all newly refurbished, completely reimagined and thoroughly inspired by Tla’amin art and culture and, most have decks or access to a deck where unobscured ocean views abound. Food and beverage are available at the newly opened Back Eatery – a full service restaurant where each meal is locally foraged, lovingly prepared and cooked in the slow-food style by world renowned Executive Chef Linton Novak.  The Sweet Shack Coffee Bar features 13 Moons Coffee, a special blend created by the Resort, for the Resort and a variety of ice creams, sweet treats and gift items. Other amenities include a bright and modern banquet room, onsite General Store with a post office and liquor store, public laundry and a gift boutique showcasing work by local artisans, both indigenous and non.  The newly expanded marina – 13 Moons Marina – provides slips for the day and overnight.  Klah ah men, formerly known as Lund, boasts such points of interest as Savary Island, the Copeland Islands, & renowned Desolation Sound, BC’s largest provincial marine park, and attracts enthusiasts of all things recreational, cultural and historic. The Lund Resort at Klah ah men offers many opportunities for guests to experience firsthand the pristine waters, undisturbed woodlands and abundant marine & wild life unique to this area. Local operators offer marine sightseeing excursions and tours, Tla’amin Nation Cultural Tours, and kayak tours and rentals.  Other nearby activities available include horseback riding, diving, golfing, bicycle rentals to savouring eats and drink at locally crafted breweries and restaurants.


Tla’amin Management Services Ltd., or Tla’amin Resorts and Accommodations, is seeking a hospitality professional to lead a diverse team of hospitality professionals at the historic Lund Hotel & Resort property, located in the destination village of Lund, BC. 



The desired candidate will have demonstrated experience in creating a culture that exemplifies: 

  • fiscal stewardship
  • operations and process discipline
  • team capacity and culture development
  • innovative sales and marketing development
  • inclusive cultural and community engagement

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

  • In alignment with the CEO’s strategic plans:
  • articulate a clear vision and mission for Lund Resort and the strategic priorities to be addressed over the next 1 – 3 years
  • develop a practical operational plan consistent with achieving the mission, vision and strategic priorities of Lund Resort
  • communicate clear strategic and operational priorities to the CEO, employees and other relevant stakeholders
  • create a high performing culture at the Lund Resort including strong employee morale, accountability and cohesiveness

Strategy Formulation:

  • take on a leadership role developing strategy with the CEO, with insights that lead to clear vision, mission & strategic priorities for Lund Resort
  • accurately identify, analyze risks & opportunities the Lund Resort faces. He/she develops strategies to mitigate risks while pursuing mission aligned opportunities
  • accurately identify key criteria to benchmark & measure the business’ strategic performance
  • ensure business ownership of the strategic plan by involving Managers, employees and other stakeholders in its formulation

Strategy Execution:

  • standardize performance optimization processes to measure operating progress against committed plans & priorities
  • sound decisions are made for effective execution of initiatives with timely adjustments in strategies & tactics when required
  • effectively provide oversight on priorities and ensure accountability at all levels
  • ensure that the operations of Lund Resort complies with all legal & regulatory requirements; government, local, health, safety, labour and environmental

Financial Planning & Performance:

  • demonstrate a detailed understanding of the Lund Resort finances and exercises good judgement while operating within budget
  • adopt and implement sound accounting practices to provide timely, accurate financial data for oversight and planning related to daily operations and capital projects
  • report financial results to the CEO & Board in a timely, accurate fashion
  • ensure that the accounting meets professional standards of approval and meets external auditor requirements

Business Performance:

  • design and implement strategies to ensure and measure guest satisfaction; evidence of analysis of feedback and corrective action is in place
  • create a brand identity that is consistent and compliments the values of Tla’amin Nation and its people
  • ensure that Standard Operating Procedures exist for each department, in alliance with required Lund Hotel Policies & Procedures; and that its employees have knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the delivery of them
  • manages and maintains hotel property; infrastructure, equipment, inventories and other facilities efficiently

External Relations:

  • consistently communicate effectively on plans and performance with the CEO, employees, customers, suppliers and stakeholders
  • ensure that public relations issues are handled in a professional manner that builds trust and alleviates concerns
  • encourage corporate social responsibility and community involvement
  • lead Lund Resorts efforts to develop positive relationships in the industry of business and the community

Human Resource Management & Relationships:

  • create a culture that motivates employees to carry out & achieve Lund Resort’s mission, strategic & operating goals
  • implement sound performance management processes that ensure everyone in the business is accountable and supported in the execution of their roles
  • recruit, develop and retain a highly competent management team with the skills, energy & passion to turn Lund Resort’s mission and vision into a reality
  • develop a recruiting strategy to organize, plan, and meet staff demands for high season operations and/or high turnover

Job Type: Full Time

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in hospitality industry
  • Finance and accounting accreditation preferred
  • Experience working with indigenous organizations and settings preferred

Education:

Degree in Hospitality Management or similar education and experience profile
