Welcome to the Cross Cultural Awareness Training provided by Tla’amin Nation! We are happy to have you with us on this journey and we raise our hands to you and honor you for being here.
The purpose of this training is to provide you with an introduction to our community. Along the way you will learn about our culture and our way of life, and some of the history of our people. Many of you work in challenging fields that require you to interact with indigenous people in sometimes difficult circumstances. It is part of our beliefs that in order to heal, you have to know who you are. In order to know who you are, you have to know where you came from. You are here thanks to your ancestors and all those who came before, and your experience has been shaped by that history. It is our hope, that by knowing our history, you will be better equipped to understand and help our people. This isn’t just Tla’amin’s history, this is everyone’s history.
Some viewers may find some of the information presented upsetting. Please remember the purpose of this training is not to shame or blame anyone, it is part of our common shared history and the stories are told just to educate everyone to help people better understand the issues faced by indigenous people.
