Hours of Work: 8:30 to 4:30 Monday to Friday to a maximum of 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $23.08 per hour

Job Purpose:
The Finance Clerk supports and is guided by the Finance Manager. The Finance Clerk will have a good understanding of accounting principles and systems, and will have the ability to accurately process financial transactions for Tla’amin Health in accordance with policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary function or duty of the Finance Clerk will be to process accounts payable, but also able and willing to perform other duties as required as follows:

  1. Performs the day-to-day processing of financial transactions to ensure that Tla’amin Health finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.
    • Receives and verifies invoices for goods and services
    • Verifies that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
    • Data entry of invoices for payment
    • Processes bi-weekly cheque runs
    • Prepares vendor cheques for mailing
    • Maintains the general ledger
    • Maintains updated Accounts Payable (vendor) files
    • Ensures payment requests have the correct coding and approvals
    • Prepares all reconciliations
    • Processes all travel claim forms
    • Maintains a filing system for all financial documents
    • Ensures the confidentiality and security of all financial files
    • Adheres to important deadlines associated with financial transactions.
  2. Supports the payroll process for Tla’amin Health
    • Establishes and maintains employee payroll files
    • Processes TD1 forms
    • Verifies pay amounts, hours work deduction etc
    • Data entry of timesheets
    • Distributes pay cheques
    • Prepares and remits source deductions and payroll taxes
    • Prepares and remits monthly pension and benefit remittances
    • Prepares year end T4’s for all employees
  3. Performs other duties as required
    • Performs a variety of clerical support duties
    • Supportive of new initiatives at Tla’amin Health
    • Assists with special events

Job Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of office administration and bookkeeping procedures
• Able to exercise and model a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Good interpersonal skills necessary for internal customer, community and vendor relations
• Working knowledge of accounting including AP, AR, payroll functions and general ledger
• Proficient in Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with computerized accounting systems such as Xyntax is an asset.
• Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial and payroll information.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Good general administrative skills including record keeping.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making skills, effective verbal and listening communication skills.
• Genuine respect for Tla’amin Nation culture and protocols.

Qualifications
• Grade 12 and additional accounting/bookkeeping training. Certificate program preferred. • Minimum 1 year of experience in general office and accounting related experience.
• Clean Criminal Record Check
• Recent TB Test
• First Aid & CPR certification – or willingness to obtain
• Driver’s License and clean annual Driver’s Abstract
• Up to date with COVID-19 vaccination

Working Conditions
Work takes place in an office environment. The Finance Clerk works primarily from the Tla’amin Nation Governance Building, and from time to time will work from Tla’amin Health Building. This position may assist with special events hosted by Tla’amin Health from time to time.

The successful applicant will be required to work in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement as well as the policies and benefits therein, in addition to all relevant Tla’amin Health policies and procedures.
