Protecting Our Salmon for Future Generations
The Tla’amin Nation is advising all fishers that the area shown on the attached map, fronting t̓ɩšosəm and the Tla’amin River, is closed to all fishing.
There is to be no fishing in the river and no setting of nets within the closed area.
This closure is being put in place because salmon returns to the river are currently below the escapement levels needed to support a healthy spawning population. Escapement refers to the number of salmon that successfully return to the river to spawn.
By reducing fishing pressure while salmon numbers are low, we are helping to protect the fish that are returning to spawn and support healthy salmon populations for future years.
The closure will remain in place until sufficient salmon have returned to meet the required escapement levels.
The Tla’amin Nation will issue another notice when the area is open to fishing again.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and support in protecting our salmon and ensuring they remain healthy and abundant for future generations.
