MEDIA RELEASE March 23, 2020
qathet Regional District, B.C. – In alignment with Parks Canada and BC Parks, effective March 23, 2020, Shelter Point Park Campground is now closed to the public for camping. Haywire Bay Regional Park Campground is closed as it has not yet opened for the season. The two campgrounds will remain closed until further notice. Regional Parks will remain open for day-use only.
The public is encouraged to day hike and recreate in our parks, however, the qathet Regional District (qRD) will be suspending camping opportunities and accommodations at Haywire Bay Park and Shelter Point Park until further notice, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. People are reminded to practice physical distancing and keep at least two metres apart from each other when enjoying our Regional Parks. Users are reminded to follow all recommendations and protocols as outlined by local, provincial and federal authorities when recreating in public areas and regional parks.
The qRD is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in British Columbia. We understand that this is an evolving situation, and will adapt our response based upon advice from public health officials. As always, the health and safety of the public and staff remain a top priority.
Any changes to services at regional parks will be posted to our website at https://www.qathet.ca/services/parks-and-recreation/regional-parks-campgrounds/
