Home > COVID-19 > Seven confirmed Covid-19 cases at Tla’amin Nation

For Immediate Release- September 9, 2020

Tla’amin Territory, Powell River, BC

Tla’amin Nation now has 7 lab-confirmed cases of Covid-19 and a number of citizens experiencing Covid-19 symptoms and awaiting test results.
To slow and stop the spread of Covid-19 Tla’amin is taking extraordinary measures including a shelter in place order, barricading access points in and out of the community, organizing testing in the village, and assembling food and other essentials for its citizens.

“We are used to pulling together as a community. These measures to slow and contain the spread of Covid-19 are essential to protect our Elders.” said Hegus Clint Williams, “As a self-governing Nation we will continue to do what we need to in order to keep our community safe.”

A pop-up in-community testing site will be available at Tla’amin Health on Thursday September 10th from 10AM to 12 noon.

Covid-19 testing is only recommended and will only be conducted if you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle pain, lack of appetite or abdominal distress. You should also get tested if you have had contact with someone who has had a positive test.
Medical officers are working to find out how far Covid-19 may have spread in Tla’amin. Residents may be contacted by a Medical Health Officer and asked to get a test. If you do not have symptoms and have not had contact with anyone that has a positive Covid-19 you do not need a Covid-19 test.
Those who have tested positive are isolating at home under the supervision of healthcare providers.

Tla’amin Hegus and legislators thank you for your cooperation at this difficult time. We will get through this together. Stay home, stay safe, and stay kind.
