The Guardian Watchman Program supports Tla’amin presence across ʔəms giȷ̌ɛ. Guardians are on the lands and waters to monitor, patrol, collect information, and help protect Tla’amin lands, waters, and resources.
Department Summary
Guardians are the eyes and ears on the territory and their work supports Tla’amin data sovereignty by helping the Nation gather its own information about what is happening out there.
Guardians build and maintain relationships with federal and provincial staff, such as Fisheries Officers, Natural Resource Officers, and BC Parks Rangers, to support stewardship work in and around ʔəms giȷ̌ɛ.
The program also helps connect Tla’amin people back to the land and water by supporting Nation programs and visits to places that have long been important to Tla’amin people.
