
Thichum Forest Products (Thichum) is a sustainable forestry company under the Tla’amin Management Services business arm for the Tla’amin Nation.
Thichum is accepting applications for the newly created Stewardship Forester position. This is an exciting opportunity for a pivotal role in a forestry company with the vision of being not only a leader through our sustainable management practices but also an organization that will inform and influence forest policy across British Columbia. The Stewardship Forester will report to the Forest Stewardship Manager at Thichum and will support the Tla’amin Nation on forest stewardship initiatives in the ʔəms giǰɛ (Tla’amin Territory). The main function of this role is to manage and develop the resource assessment program, which is part of an integrated process with the Tla’amin Nation to review and provide recommendations on forestry related development and planning proposals submitted by industry and government proponents.This position offers a unique opportunity to assess a variety of forest management practices and conduct fieldwork in a range of locations and ecosystems. The ideal candidate will be organized, professional, and dedicated to upholding Tla’amin Nation sustainable resource management practices. Eligibility for registration with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia is a requirement of this position.
Position Responsibilities
▪ Resource Assessments – manage forestry-based consultation requests and field-based reviews. This includes managing technicians and specialists to support fieldwork and providing recommendations to Nation staff and leadership according to Tla’amin Nation stewardship review policy.
▪ Forestry Policy – provide advice as a subject matter expert related to best practices for sustainable forest resource management and policy development.
▪ Safety Program – lead the coordination of safety policies, program administration, and assessments.
Education, Training, and Skills
▪ Demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
▪ Positive attitude with a desire to lead change in the BC forestry industry.
▪ Experience in the coastal forestry sector and working with or alongside First Nation organizations.
▪ Understanding of forestry legislation and consultation frameworks.
▪ Eligible for registration with Forest Professionals of British Columbia as an RFT or RPF.
▪ Strong computer aptitude and report writing skills.
▪ High level of integrity and professionalism.
▪ Commitment to safety and experience working in field-based conditions.
▪ Valid class 5 driver’s license.
