Community conversation about the future of tiskwat.

A painful past.

Tiskwat (or big and fast-moving river) was home to Tla’amin people for thousands of years. Since being forcibly removed from the original village site almost 150 years ago, Tla’amin people have suffered and so have the land and animals that depended on it.

A hopeful future.

Tiskwat is now for sale and Tla’amin is trying to get it back so that the Nation may begin a multi-generational project to heal the land and generate wealth and opportunity for future generations of Tla’amin people.

All Tla’amin Citizens are invited to have a say about the future of tiskwat.  At four upcoming community sessions Hegus John Hackett and Executive Council will present information about Tla’amin’s specific claim, outline future plans, and hear your ideas and concerns about the original village site.

Unable to attend any of the meetings?

The December 12th session will be available online via Zoom allowing Citizens to join from anywhere. Tla’amin Citizens unable to attend may also review an online presentation and fill in an online survey. The survey will be launched and advertised in December.

Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s)

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic and ongoing negotiations with Paper Excellence, BC and Canada, all Tla’amin Citizens and Members will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to attend tiskwat meetings.

Non-Disclosure Agreement forms will also be available for signing at each community conversation.
