Tla’amin Nation Concerned about Concerned Citizens

Anonymous activist group’s fake poll breaches privacy and incites division in the community.

March 6, 2024

Tla’amin Nation is worried that the actions of a local activist group called “Concerned Citizens of POWELL RIVER” are creating confusion and inciting division in the community. The group is issuing inaccurate information and mixed messages to both Tla’amin Nation and members of the public.

The small anonymous activist group wrote to the Nation earlier this month saying “The Sliammon Indian Council and reservation” should “take no further action on the name change” while at the same time mailing a fake poll to all city and regional district residents.

The Concerned Citizens fake poll is being used to harvest the private and personal information of city residents without any privacy disclaimer of how the information will be stored, used, or protected.

Tla’amin Nation encourages people to exercise caution about submitting their private information to this group, which appears to have fanatical and extreme origins.

In another letter to the Nation dated February 6, the group said that “English is the number one spoken language in the world” and “your version of speech is not even recognized by other groups in BC.”

Copies of correspondence received from the Concerned Citizens are enclosed below for public information.
