The Citizenship Committee oversees the enrolment process for Tla’amin citizenship, ensuring applications are handled fairly, consistently, and in accordance with the Final Agreement and Tla’amin law.

The Citizenship Committee is responsible for:

  • Publishing eligibility criteria and application procedures for Conditional Membership and Tla’amin Citizenship
  • Reviewing applications and determining whether applicants are eligible for enrolment
  • Directing the Registrar to add or remove names from the Conditional Membership Register or the Citizenship Register
  • Keeping applicant information strictly confidential in accordance with Tla’amin law and policy
  • Establishing its own rules and procedures consistent with Tla’amin law and the Citizenship Policy

In accordance with the Citizenship Law, the Tla’amin Executive Council is authorized and required to appoint three members to serve on the Citizenship Committee.

Jolene Sutcliffe

Jolene Sutcliffe Chair

Jolene Sutcliffe is serving her second term on the Citizenship Committee. She grew up in t̓išosəm immersed in Tla’amin culture and teachings under the guidance of her grandparents. Jolene is the current Chair of the Assumption Parish Education Committee and a strong supporter of youth soccer, on and off the field. Community-minded and focused on the up-and-coming generation, Jolene takes seriously the role of the Citizenship Committee in setting policy directions that will serve Tla’amin well into the future.

Pam Wilson

Pam Wilson Member

Pam Wilson was born and raised in t̓išosəm. She is an active and long serving member of the Tla’amin Fire Department, avid soccer and hockey fan and is the proud mother of four Tla’amin children. Pam is serving her second term on the citizenship committee and brings a lifetime of knowledge of Tla’amin family connections and community life to the table.

April Treakle is a Tla’amin Citizen and Resident. She was raised in Tla’amin and moved to the greater Vancouver Area for about 20 years as a young adult before moving back home to Tla’amin in 2019. She serves the Nation as Lands and Resources Manager. April is the proud mother of two growing boys K-Shaun and Linden. She is committed to growing with our Nation and doing what she can to work with and for Tla’amin today and into the future.

Cathy Paul (Kitlen)

Cathy Paul (Kitlen) Member

Cathy Paul (Kitlen) recently came aboard the Citizenship Committee as an Elder Advisor. She loves working for her community and participating and assist in any cultural events. Kitlen holds a background in Membership and was a previous member of the Committee 11 years ago. She says the policies and laws around Citizenship are key to Tla’amin Nation progressing successfully as we navigate through our exponential growth. ʔ imot papem!

Doreen Point (Les.Pet)

Doreen Point (Les.Pet) Member

Respected Elder, residential school survivor and longtime teacher’s aide. With her husband Alex, she fostered for 20 years, adopting four children; in 1999 she helped found the Federation of Aboriginal Foster Parents. She shares teachings with Tla’amin’s čičyɛ circle.
