Tla’amin Citizens can apply for land when land is available and the application is allowed under Tla’amin law.

A land application is not only for a home lot or Citizen Land Title. Depending on the land and the proposed use, Tla’amin Citizens may also ask about other ways to use or hold Tla’amin Lands. This could include land for housing, cabins, agriculture, business, access, or other community and individual needs.

Other people, businesses, organizations, or governments may also apply for land interests when allowed under Tla’amin law.

Not all land is available for application. Some lands may have limits, conditions, or extra review steps. Lands and Resources can help explain what options may be available and what process applies.

Please contact Lands and Resources before submitting a land application.

A development permit helps Tla’amin Nation review a proposed land use or site change before work begins.

This review helps make sure a project fits Tla’amin law, the Land Use Plan, development permit area guidelines, and site needs. This may include cultural heritage, water, trees, slopes, roads, servicing, neighbouring properties, the foreshore, and environmental protection.

A development permit is different from a building permit. A development permit looks at the land and the proposed use. A building permit looks at construction safety and building code. Some projects may need both.

You may need a development permit for

  • a new building or structure
  • a change in land use
  • a commercial, community, agricultural, or industrial project
  • work near water, trees, slopes, cultural areas, or the foreshore
  • work that may affect roads, servicing, access, or nearby properties
  • a project that also needs a building permit
