Supporting families with respect and dignity
Tla’amin Nation Public Works supports cemetery services in the community, working closely with families to ensure respectful care and coordination.
- The cemetery is private Tla’amin lands and not open to the public
- No photography in the cemetery
- Please do not remove anything from the cemetery
- Garbage and waste should be put in the bins inside the cemetery so they can be brushed and disposed of
Cemetery Locations
There are two cemeteries available:
- Tla’amin Road Cemetery
- Χɛχnɛq (Xexehnek) Cemetery
At this time, plots cannot be reserved in advance.
What We Do
- Burial coordination
We work with families and internal teams to prepare burial sites. - Site preparation
We coordinate plot layout, excavation, and setup. - Records and mapping
All burial locations are recorded and maintained through GIS mapping. - Support for ceremonies
We assist with preparation for cultural practices, including burning areas when needed. - Ongoing maintenance
We maintain common areas such as grass and pathway
Burial Process (Overview)
- Next of kin confirms burial type (full casket, cremation, etc.)
- Plot location is identified and confirmed
- Site is prepared by Public Works
- Burial details are recorded
Where possible, we try to place individuals near family members.
Cultural Considerations
- χɛχnɛq includes designated areas for different burial types and repatriation
- Cultural burning can be supported with notice
- Protocols are followed for handling items and maintaining spaces
Family Responsibilities
- Maintenance of individual plots where possible
- Coordination of headstones or markers (with support available)
Public Works can assist with preparation for installation of crosses or headstones.
