Supporting families with respect and dignity

Tla’amin Nation Public Works supports cemetery services in the community, working closely with families to ensure respectful care and coordination.

  • The cemetery is private Tla’amin lands and not open to the public
  • No photography in the cemetery
  • Please do not remove anything from the cemetery
  • Garbage and waste should be put in the bins inside the cemetery so they can be brushed and disposed of

Cemetery Locations

There are two cemeteries available:

  • Tla’amin Road Cemetery
  • Χɛχnɛq (Xexehnek) Cemetery

At this time, plots cannot be reserved in advance.

What We Do

  • Burial coordination
We work with families and internal teams to prepare burial sites.
  • Site preparation
We coordinate plot layout, excavation, and setup.
  • Records and mapping
All burial locations are recorded and maintained through GIS mapping.
  • Support for ceremonies
We assist with preparation for cultural practices, including burning areas when needed.
  • Ongoing maintenance
We maintain common areas such as grass and pathway

Burial Process (Overview)

  • Next of kin confirms burial type (full casket, cremation, etc.)
  • Plot location is identified and confirmed
  • Site is prepared by Public Works
  • Burial details are recorded

Where possible, we try to place individuals near family members.

Cultural Considerations

  • χɛχnɛq includes designated areas for different burial types and repatriation
  • Cultural burning can be supported with notice
  • Protocols are followed for handling items and maintaining spaces

Family Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of individual plots where possible
  • Coordination of headstones or markers (with support available)

Public Works can assist with preparation for installation of crosses or headstones.
